Following President Donald Trump’s threats of “fire and fury” to North Korea earlier this week, it has responded with it’s own warning to the US. In a statement released on Thursday, North Korea said it was planning launch four intermediate-range ballistic missiles towards Guam in the Western Pacific. If launched, the rockets will pass over Japan and land into the sea just 17 miles from Guam’s coastline.

Although new sanctions were approved by the UN Security Council on the weekend, it seems most people are relatively unfazed by the threats and counter threats. Even for the most casual onlooker, it’s obvious that picking a fight with the US will yield only one result for North Korea.

Playing down Trump’s harsh words, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reassured Americans that North Korea does not pose an imminent threat, and told them to “sleep well at night”. Whether or not North Korea has succeeded in making a nuclear warhead small enough to fit inside its missiles is unconfirmed. Most analysts are sure that North Korea are unlikely to launch an attack on the US, no matter how “bereft of reason” they may think President Donald Trump actually is.
