Cyclone Enawo left 38 dead, 180 injured and 53,000 displaced after it hit the country’s south-east coast in March. It destroyed roads and cut communication with the north-east district of Antalaha.

“The damage is enormous wherever the cyclone has gone,” was a statement made by Thierry Venty, executive secretary of the National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management.

In a report published on Info Chrétienne, we read that 52,000 Euros in donations were raised by the NGO IC Compassion to help the victims with emergency aid and to reconstruct homes and schools. IC Compassion’s Director, Guillaume Anjou, and his team visited Tananarive in May to see the village that Father Pedro has built next to the steaming garbage dump where the people scavenge trying to find something to eat or sell. Many homes were destroyed and with the help funds from IC Compassion and the hard work of the local families, 21 new homes are being rebuilt.
