God’s Word tells us that man is saved as a result of grace through faith and that there is therefore nothing we can do to ‘earn’ our salvation: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). It also says “You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone,” (James 2:24), and that “…faith without works is dead…” (James 2:26).

So, are we justified by faith alone, or by faith plus works? Was there a conflict between Paul’s and James’ understandings of justification? In this short video by Dr Brown explains these seemingly conflicting arguments and brings us to understand what justification by faith alone really means. And we must never forget that Jesus’ work on the cross was perfect!
