According to the second part of a study published by the American Bible Society titled Raising Your Children by the Book, fewer than one-third of parents pray regularly with their children.
The finding points to a significant gap in spiritual practice at home. Yet the study also suggests that family prayer does not have to be complicated. Just a few minutes centered around a Bible verse can create meaningful moments of connection, listening, and trust in God.
Here are five Bible verses that can inspire simple times of family prayer.
"Teach them to your children" — Deuteronomy 6:6–7
This passage encourages parents to speak about God in the ordinary rhythms of daily life. Before school, at bedtime, or around the dinner table, these words remind families that everyday moments can become opportunities to pass on faith.
"Let the little children come to me" — Matthew 19:14
Jesus welcomes children with love and gives them an important place in the kingdom of God. Parents can use this verse to encourage their children to bring their joys, fears, and needs to God in prayer.
"Give thanks in all circumstances" — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude teaches children to recognize the blessings woven into everyday life. This verse can inspire a simple moment in which each family member shares one reason to thank God.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart" — Proverbs 3:5
Children also experience worry, disappointment, and moments of uncertainty. This verse reminds families that God is present in every situation, even the difficult ones.
"Love one another" — John 13:34
The family is often the first place where children learn patience, forgiveness, and love. Jesus' command invites every member of the household to live out that love in practical ways at home.
Specialists at the American Bible Society say children tend to grow spiritually through simple, regular habits lived out in family life. Praying together around a few Bible verses does not require deep biblical expertise. It simply requires time, attentiveness, and a desire to grow in faith together.
